| # | Artist | Song (click to play) | Album | Year | CD label |
| 1 | Goblin | Roller | Roller | 1976 | Cinevox |
| This is one of Goblin's very few non-soundtrack albums. There is a little bit of Oldfield, and Pink Floyd, but, in overall sound, they sound complete different from them. Even though this was not written explicitly for a horror soundtrack, it was used several years later for a movie called "Wampir". | |||||
| 2 | The Trip | Atlantide | Atlantide | 1972 | BMG / RCA (Japan) (also Vinyl Magic) |
| ELP influenced, big time. And maybe some Greenslade, too. Excellent virtuosic key-work. The album concept is "Atlantis". | |||||
| 3 | Il Volo | Canto di Lavoro | Essere O Non Essere | 1975 | SiWan |
| Il Volo plays a mix of slick fusion and symphonic prog with a pop-sensibility. The closest comparison I can think of is the Hungarian band "East", who you might have heard on shows 19 & 20. Alot of people swear by this group, but, I think they are just OK. But, I often change my mind after having listened to an album many times. The keyboards and guitar often sound cheesy. It sounds so "70's", almost like music that I might hear on an old Starsky & Hutch episode. Despite the less than interesting instrumental timbres, the compositions are pretty good. | |||||
| 4 | Cervello | Scinsione (T.R.M.) | Melos | 1973 | SiWan |
| Closest comparison I can think of is Osanna, based on only having heard _Palepoli_. The music is often intricate and quirky in a Gentle Giant manner. There is some John McLaughlin influence in the guitar playing. As with most other 70's Italian prog bands, there is flute. So many prog bands have flute, that it almost seems as unnecessary as mentioning that a group has drums. The excellent vocals on this album remind me alot of the Finnish group Tabula Rasa. All in all, this is an excellent album, that is very original and interesting. | |||||
| 5 | Sensations's Fix | Fragments of Light | Fragments of Light | 1974 | Mellow |
| Spacy electronic music influenced, perhaps, by Fripp & Eno, Heldon, Popol Vuh. Nice relaxing music. | |||||
| 6 | Arti + Mestieri | Consapevolezza Parte 1 | Giro di Valzer per Domani | 1975 | Vinyl Magic |
| Mahavishnu influenced prog/fusion. Exemplary drumming in the mold of Billy Cobham or Alphonse Mouzon. This album adds a modicum of vocals. | |||||
| 7 | Premiata Forneria Marconi | Appena Un Poco | Per Un Amico | 1973 | SiWan |
| This is PFM's second album and my favorite. I wish that this was one of those albums that I heard 25 years ago, and could have been listening to all this time. This song has a dreamy quality that I find very appealing, kind of like the Moody Blues _On the Threshold of a Dream_. | |||||
