Former Gong and Khan guitarist Steve Hillage released quite a number of solo albums from the mid 70s on. His first album, Fish Rising, is a sublime continuation of the Gong sound during their Radio Gnome trilogy period. Ex-Khan buddy, Dave Stewart, guests on organ, adding a distinctly jazzy Canterbury touch from time to time, and Hillage's spacey guitar playing is fantastic on this highly recommended masterpiece. I have heard several of his later solo albums like Open and
Green, and found all of them to be rather uninspired, uneven albums;
the magic of his Gong days and Fish Rising is seldom heard. Definitely
start with Fish Rising and for the other albums I would recommend
listening before buying.
